WACHAU

The Danube winds picturesquely between Melk and Krems. Enjoy the beautiful sceneries on a cruise ship or by cycling along the river (there are bike lanes all along the Danube). You pass idyllic medieval places (such as Dürnstein with its well known blue church), and castle ruins which remind of dark medieval times. Visit the great Monastries of Melk and Göttweig and the museum of Danube ships and Cruises. The ruins of the castle Dürnstein remind us of Richard the Lionheart who was held captive there.

Dunkelsteinerwald, with its famous ruin "Aggstein", is also worth a visit. Enjoy the great landscape of Lower Austria: the wine terraces, the numerous orchards with cherries, apricots, peaches, apples, pears and plums. The Wachau is the ideal wine producing region of Austria! In former times (and till today) the table wine of the Wachau (Tafelwein) has been exported to many european (royal) courts and was highly requested at any event!

A must: Wine tasting of many award winning wines of the Wachau!
